A&P - A Short Story by John Updike

At times in purport, things seem to appear contrasting than they ar, for instance the thrill of successfully getting a scratch hypothesize. This moment in my life was getting a job at a securities industry terminal just similar Sammy. These moments can bring on a great impact on a person. One could translate that this definitive moment is an epiphany, or realization in life. In the short story A&P by magic Updike, the main character, Sammy, has an epiphany and realizes that a impartial choice can slip away to a better discretion of mature life.\nTherefore, the shift of indicators in this short story caught my warmness immediately. The main characters seem to be at the teenage grade of life, implying sexuality plays an important purpose in who holds the power. All eye are on the youngish girls as they walk into the chime in in nothing precisely bathing suits  (Updike 353). Sammys ultimate finale of quitting is based on impressing the girls and existence free , even though it doesnt grow (Updike 359). The attention the girls attract is a power they earn. They are assured that the boys in the store are staring, and control the atmosphere. They act as though it is not a big deal as Queenie kept her head held postgraduate  (Updike 354), even though that in this time period it was insufferable to be unc everyplaceed in a public place. By not acknowledging the mens interests, they act to hold the power. When they are terminate shopping, a shift in power becomes quite parade when Lengel comes over to talk to the girls. He steals the power and attention they have held onto for so long by embarrassing them, explaining why it is not okay to come into the store indecent (Updike 357). The girls leave likewise quickly to notice Sammys romanticistic act showing the power of sexuality they still held over him (Updike 358). As his good deed of conveyance is left unnoticed, he is stuck with a life-changing realization. \nFurthermore, Sammy re spects the girls for their bold ratiocination to stand up to Lengel.
